Traveller's Guide to Alyria

Your journey to Tellerium didn't go quite as planned, you find yourself in a merciless blizzard,
fighting the wind and ice mounted on your valiant fat little pony. After a while you notice you
have strayed from the road, and you feel a chill running down your spine, thinking of what you
were told before leaving your home village, "Never stray from the roads lad, ye never know
what ye'll find out there in the wilderness". You decide to go back the same way you came
but it's no use, you can't even see your own tracks because of the snow covering them up
as soon as they're made. All of a sudden, your brave pony rears and throws you to the
ground, you watch it as it runs in panic in the opposite direction. You slowly manage to get
up on your feet with the help of your lumberjack's axe. You look around, wondering what
might have caused your only companion to flee in terror. Suddenly you hear something
huge let out a mighty cry behind you and as you turn around, you witness the most fearsome
creature you have ever encountered, so the tales of the mighty yeti were true after all.
Having no other choice, you stand up with your axe in both of your trembling hands, ready
to face the attack of the terrifying beast. It charges towards you and with a savage slash
from its gigantic claws everything turns black........

You let out a groan of pain as you wake up and open your eyes. You find yourself in a warm
and comfortable bed with your arm and torso bandaged. You look around in the room, which
seems to be a small wooden cottage with a fire burning intensely in the little fireplace.
The door opens and you hear the wind howling outside as an old man dressed in thick fur
clothes enters the room. He closes the door fast after himself and looks at you with his ice
blue eyes. "You're awake, eh?", the man says. "You're darn lucky I found ya out there before
the wolves did", he mutters as he throws some more wood in the fireplace. "Let me tell you a story
young boy..."

This is a scenario that's likely to happen young novice adventurers in Alyria, though you might
not get as lucky as this young man. That's why I've put together this simple little guide for all the
new travellers throughout Alyria.

What this guide will consist of:

I    - Classes
II   - Stats and Attributes
III  - Equipment
IV - Leveling
V  - Questing
VI - Tips and tricks

I - Classes

There are many races in Alyria which you can play, I won't go into detail on them here though, as
I believe that all races are fully playable and that it's possible to make a strong character with
every available race. However, you might want to take a look at the classes that your race can
become, as it's crucial to the way you want to play the game, some races get more physically
strong classes while others excel in the defensive and magic arts.

Fighter Classes

Cavalier

By many considered the weakest fighter, as it requires a mount to truly take advantage of its
ace skill, the lance, which is one of the most powerful one handed weapons out there. They
get a variety of other weapons too, and many of the strongest players out there are cavaliers,
so I wouldn't count this one out. Only males can become cavaliers.

Valkyrie

While lacking offensive power compared to the Cavalier and Barbarian, this class is the expert
of defense, and the best tanks of all the fighters, they also get riding which is very useful.
Only females can become valkyries.

Barbarian

The barbarian depends on brute strength and is the only fighter class that doesn't get the riding
skill. The signature skills of the barbarian are axe and battle rage, with these two combined
making them one of the most fearsome opponents out there.

Paladin

Different from all the other fighters, paladins are also trained in the use of magic. They aren't
the strongest warriors out there, they do get a large number of curative and supportive spells
though, with their unique spell being sanctify, which will be very useful, especially later on.

Mage Classes

Wizard

The true master of magic, the wizard gets a ton of useful spells for combat, traveling and more.
This is a very good overall caster and has many fearsome spells.

Psionic

The psionics use their strong minds to overcome their opponents and while having quite a small
spell list, they have many unique spells that makes it worthwhile. Psionics don't need spellbooks
to cast their spells.

Ranger

Rangers love nature and wildlife, and so they get a large number of skills and spells to survive
out in the wilderness. While having less spells than the wizard, they do get many useful skills
to help them out, the most notable one being herbalism, which gives them the ability to mix
herbs that can be eaten or thrown at opponents to give various spell effects.

Monk

Trained by the clerics, these mages are a mix of the wizard and priest. They get supportive spells
as well as many other offensive spells. They also have a few unique skills, such as martial arts
and multiply magic. Monks also get herbalism.

Cleric Classes

Priest

The most supportive of the clerical classes, priests have spells that are mostly designed to aid
in others. They also get augment aura, which is used to magically enhance your physical damage.

Shaman

Very similar to the priest, shamans are good supporters. They have a unique spell, elemental shield,
which is extremely useful when fighting, though the price of the scrolls tend to be very high.

Druid

This class is unique as a cleric, while not being as supportive as the two above, they get many strong
offensive spells and they don't have to memorize spells as well.

Witch

Another unique clerical class, the witches are evil natured and tend to use magic to corrupt their opponent
rather than support their friends. The witch doesn't get any regular healing spells, and is not recommended
for a novice.

Thief Classes

Rogue

The rogue's trade is stealth and quick, silent, assassination. They are moderately strong fighters and get the
most fighting skills of all the non-figher classes.

Bard

Bards are skilled in magic, as opposed to the rogue's physical strength, and use their instruments to play
songs that give magic effects. They do get a number of stealthy skills as well. One of the best spells you
get as a bard is slow, which isn't nearly as expensive to cast as it would be for a wizard.

II - Stats and Attributes

The most important attributes in the beginning are these:

Wisdom: Determines the amount of practices you get each level
Vitality: Determines the amount of hit points and stamina you get each level (Mostly for Fighter/Rogue)
Knowledge: Determines the amount of spell points you get each level (Mostly for Mage/Paladin/Bard)

Class Attribute: Your class attribute is the main attribute for your current class, if it's high enough you
might get double betters as you level up.

III - Equipment

In the early levels, try to find equipment that will enhance your attributes, I recommend getting octarine
gear from the Venerable Seers in Rune. As you level up you will want to get equipment that gives high
armor rating.

IV - Leveling

The easiest way to level up in the beginning is to quest or find other adventurers to team up with.
Some good leveling areas:

Sigil - Good for the really low levels

Templeton - Very fast experience for levels 25-59. You should be able to take on this place solo
as soon as you get dodge and a decent amount of hp.

Pirate's Cove - An option to Templeton, this place gives even higher experience.

V - Questing

There are several quest masters out there that needs your help, they will of course reward you for your efforts.

Lord Agrippa - Rune
Lord Vendredi - Sigil
Lord Vashir - New Rigel
Lord Telleri - Tellerium
Lady Undya - Xaventry
Lady Templeton - Templeton (Only available at levels 60+)
Lord Maldra - Maldra's Keep (Only available at levels 120+)

Questing in your first class is highly recommended as it will give you a good base to build your character on.
Recommended is to get at least 100 quests before you move on to your next class, however, mage/cleric
classes will find that the practices won't be enough and thus might want to stay longer. How much you quest
is completely up to yourself. You will find that many people camp classes for months, maybe even years,
it's their choice, however, I don't think it's a good option for a first character as you will learn more about the
game as you advance in the classes, that's just my opinion though.

VI - Tips and Tricks

You can only do 5 quests every Alyrian day as a first classer (That's 6 hours in real life time)

Use the 'consider' command to see if you are strong enough to take on a certain monster

Know your enemy - Always research on the pros and cons of your opponent so you can take advantage of it

Never enter CPK areas unless you are 100% sure about what you are doing. CPK means Chaotic Player Killing
which means that you will leave your corpse with some equipment if you die there

Join a clan! Clans are a very good way to learn a lot about the game and also have fun! Once you are level 45 you
will be able to join a clan, however, most clans don't accept members lower than 60.
